1993-1999年就读于必威betway体育官方网站首届基地班地质学专业,本硕连读,1996年、1999年分别获得学士和硕士学位,2003年获必威BETWAY官网古生物学与地层学博士学位。2003至2007年,必威betway体育官方网站讲师;2007年至2015年,必威betway体育官方网站副研究员;2009年9月至2010年3月,德国哥廷根大学访问学者;2015年3月至今,必威betway体育官方网站,研究员。与英国剑桥大学、日本东京大学、日本京都大学、广岛大学,法国里昂大学、以及美国汉诺威学院开展了广泛的国际合作研究以及联合培养博士生工作。

从事寒武纪生命大爆发及动物门类演化研究,聚焦于寒武纪早期澄江生物群(518Ma)、宽川铺生物群(535Ma)中的蜕皮动物和刺细胞动物,取得了一系列重要成果。主要业绩:1)在澄江动物群中发现已知最古老的动物孵育行为、食腐行为和具有感觉棒的肉食性的游泳型水母。2)在宽川铺生物群中发现已知最古老的保存软躯体结构的海葵动物化石以及呈四、五辐射对称的水母胚胎化石的软组织结构。3)在宽川铺生物群中发现了已知最古老的蜕皮行为。4)在寒武系早期宽川铺生物群中发现微型动物冠状皱囊虫,这暗示着在寒武系底部甚至前寒武纪晚期可能存在更多的皱囊虫姊妹属种及其他有口无肛的未知微型“表亲”类型有待发现。

先后负责国家自然科学基金5项含国际合作项目1项、中国科学院战略性先导科技专项(B类)子课题1项,参加国家重点基础研究发展计划(973计划)课题、国家自然科学基金重点项目、基金委创新群体及陕西省重点领域科技创新团队等项目。在《Nature》、《Science》、《PNAS》、《Nature Communications》、《Gondwana Research》、《eLife》等国内外刊物上发表学术论文160余篇。研究成果获得国家自然科学奖二等奖(第五完成人,项目名称:地球动物树成型)、教育部自然科学奖一等奖(2009年,第三完成人)、教育部 2009年度高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖(一等奖,第三完成人)、第六届中国科协优秀论文(排名第二)、“2013年度中国海洋与湖沼十大科技成果”。两次入选中国古生物学会“中国古生物学十大进展 ”。获第十届陕西省青年科技奖一等奖及陕西省青年科技标兵一等奖。参加多项古生物科普活动,以第一完成人两次入选中国古生物学会“全国地质古生物科普十大进展”。
